Red Lobsters. Episode 04: The Marxist Apprentice

Leo Kofler had a great time teaching Marxist anthropology and humanism at the University of Bochum in Germany. He enjoyed challenging the students to think critically about the social and economic system they lived in and encouraging them to question the status quo. He was also happy to have  Jorben Shapeterson as his new student, who was eager to learn about Marxism.

During one of the lectures, Jorben raised his hand and asked Kofler about the concept of base and superstructure in capitalism. Kofler smiled and began to explain that the base of capitalism is the economic system of production, while the superstructure is the cultural, legal, and political systems that are built on top of it. He then went on to explain how the superstructure is ultimately shaped by the base, and how the ruling class uses ideology to maintain its dominance over the working class.

Jorben nodded, clearly intrigued, and asked Kofler about the idea of proletarian hegemony. Kofler explained that this is the idea that the working class must lead the struggle against capitalism, since they are the ones who have the most to gain from its overthrow. He talked about the importance of building a strong working-class movement that could challenge the ruling class and ultimately replace them as the dominant force in society.

Jorben was starting to understand and asked Kofler how to build such a movement. Kofler explained that it requires a combination of education, organization, and mobilization. He talked about the need to educate the working class about their rights and the injustices of capitalism, to organize them into unions and political parties, and to mobilize them through strikes and protests.

Jorben was nodding along, clearly impressed with Kofler's ideas. He asked Kofler how he could get involved in the struggle for socialism. Kofler smiled and invited Jorben to attend a meeting of the local socialist organization that he was involved in. Jorben eagerly accepted, feeling that he had found a new purpose in life.

From that day on, Jorben Shapeterson became Kofler's most enthusiastic student. He devoured Marxist literature and attended rallies and protests with Kofler and his comrades. He even began to write articles and give speeches about the need for a socialist revolution. Kofler was thrilled to have such a dedicated student, and Jorben Shapeterson was happy to have found a new direction in life.

Eventually, Jorben Shapeterson graduated and went on to become a leader in the socialist movement. He never forgot the lessons he learned from Kofler, and he always credited him with opening his eyes to the true nature of capitalism and the struggles of the working class.
